“Everybody is a story. When I was a child, people sat around kitchen tables and told their stories. We don’t do that so much anymore. Sitting around the table telling stories is not just a way of passing time. It is the way the wisdom gets passed along. The stuff that helps us to live a life worth remembering.”

― Rachel Naomi Remen

Did you know there are almost 90,000 Jews residing in Montreal and its suburbs? Who are they and what are their stories? The first Jews arrived in Quebec in the 1760’s and settled in such areas as Trois Rivières, Quebec City and the Port of Montreal. In the 250 years that have followed, the Jewish community has established and supports many institutions that benefit all Quebecers, as well as contributed to the economic, cultural and academic success of Montreal. Today, the Montreal Jewish community is mosaic of individuals whose identities vary in age, career path and country of origin, to name but a few.

InMontreal is an initiative of Federation CJA to capture and share this beauty and diversity of the Montreal Jewish community. Together we create a strong tapestry of individuals that is proud, vibrant and unique.

InMontreal is being updated regularly to feature new voices and faces, each post capturing a special story or moment in time. Check back often and share this with friends – you just may see someone you know or learn something new!
